State Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh while felicitating two Mayang Imphal Constituency students who were among the toppers merit list in the recently concluded HSLC examination at his office chamber in Imphal by giving a cash reward of Rs 50,000 each, informed that his department is planning to introduce state transport policy.Talking to the media after the felicitation function on tuesday, Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said the transport department already completed a draft ‘State Transport Policy’ and it will be implemented soon. The policy could be amended from time to time, according to the convenience of the people. He said the draft policy will be tabled in the cabinet meeting for its implementation soon.
Regarding the operation of the semi-low floor buses, minister said not a single private operator is interested to operate the semi-low floor buses in the state. Despite floating tender several times, no private operator responded for the service.
The state government cannot run the bus service as there was no provision for the purpose. He said the model of the bus and other four vehicle services in the state might faced difficulties in its operation.So no private party turned up for the tender. The department allows to use the buses to private organisation and others department for their specific purpose after taking permission from the department.
The two students who were felicitated are 17th position holder Yumkhaibam Sadananda Singh of Angahal Higher Secondary School Wangoi and 22nd position holder Ngangom Hemanta Singh of Paree Imom Sindamsang Langjing. The function was also attended by Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism & YAS) M Prithiviraj Singh and MLA RK Anand Singh.
