Dimapur, Jan. 14 (EMN): Nagaland is set to observe the National Immunisation Day (NID) on February 3. In this regard, a state level workshop on Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) was held on January 14 in the conference hall of the directorate of health and family welfare with the participation of all DIOs from the 11 districts.
Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru, NHM mission director, delivered the keynote address and exhorted the DIOs to work with diligence and without ceasing. He also motivated them to work harder for the welfare and goodwill of the people as they did during the MRVC.
Dr. Sheila, SMO WHO-India, gave a presentations on ‘Update on APF & measles surveillance Nagaland,’ ‘Current status of polio eradication, risks to eradication and actions to sustain polio free status,’ ‘Guidelines for planning and implementation of NIDs (booth, h-t-h, transit sites & special areas activity),’ and ‘Risk mitigation strategies; Status of tagging of HRAs (high risk areas) for routine immunisation.’
Dr. Atoshe Sema chaired the programme. The house had open discussion on formats for planning and implementation, issues of coordination between implementing partners and districts, planning for district workshops and timeline.
It may be mentioned here that National Immunisation Day is a mass campaign during which supplement doses of oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) are given to children in a country to interrupt the transmission of wild
poliovirus.
