Dimapur, August 29: Embarking on the objective to train and equip the work force, State government held its second meeting on ‘Year of Construction Workers (YOCW)’ headed by the Parliamentary Secretary of Labour and Employment, Mmhonlumo Kikon, as the convenor on August 29.
The meeting was attended by the State Chief Secretary, Pankaj Kumar, and chaired by M Patton, Commissioner and Secretary of Labour & Employment Skills Development & Entrepreneurship.
Among other dignitaries, who attended the programme, included the Director M Sangtam, other senior officers from the department and representatives from Zynorique Initiatives and YouthNet.YOCW was an initiative of the State Chief Minister, TR Zeliang, who had declared 2016 as the ‘Year of Construction Worker’ at the Nagaland Youth Summit held in March 2016 at Kohima. YOCW would prioritise skilling and encouraging the local youth of Nagaland in the construction sector and securing them 100% placement in the local market.
Speaking in the meeting, Mmhonlumo Kikon announced that Nagaland Construction Academy would be launched. A certification curriculum for training of construction workers has also been designed by the State government. The certificate course for construction workers would begin immediately for the benefit of unemployed youth in Nagaland. The committee would also meet with the NCSU for collaborating with the private partners.
