Dimapur, June 20: The government provides for development in the form of, for instance, infrastructure and facilities. But maintaining the assets is also a responsibility of those who use them. The people must also learn to make proper use of the limited resources and sustain it without depending solely on the government.
This was statement of the advisor for Skill Development, Labour & Employment, Kazheto Kinimi, who addressed a programme on Thursday.
The advisor was addressing the inauguration of the assistant labour commissioner and District Employment Exchange’s office on June 20 in Dimapur. The office is located near Zion Hospital at Purana Bazar in the city.
The legislator said it was ‘rather unfortunate that in spite of the government of Nagaland providing for infrastructure in the form of govt. office buildings, most of them are in bad shape today.’ The reason he said was poor maintenance and ‘absence of repairs and replacement.’
Kinimi said the building was funded by a negotiated loan; a sum of INR five crore was sanctioned. The project started on Dec. 2014 and was completed in May 2019. The new building will house the office of the assistant labour commissioner, employment exchange, a labour court, and the labour welfare centre.
Kinimi asserted that while it was also the duty of the govt. to provide funds, ‘We must learn to make proper use of the limited resources and also learn to sustain without depending solely on the govt.’
"Government offices are public properties. You and I are its owners. Just as we maintain our own houses, keep it clean, we must treat our offices the same. As govt. servants one must realise that office is where you spend most time than your own homes," the advisor said. He expressed hope that the department would make good use of the space and find a ‘renewed spirit and motivation to serve the people and the citizens of the state.’
Commissioner-secretary for Labour and Employment, Anenla T Sato gave the keynote address. She asked the dept. to guide the public as most of the people they deal with are uneducated and they come to seek assistance. Likewise, she called on the dept. to guide youngsters so that they can solve problems together.
The joint director of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Chiden Yaden gave the concluding remarks. He said there were about 4000 registered daily labourers and 73000 jobseekers who have been registered in Dimapur alone. This is challenging, he said.
"The state government cannot give jobs to one lakh people and therefore the government through skill development has brought out various skill development courses. Our work may not sound glamorous but the service rendered to the people is challenging," Yaden said.
The officer has urged the dept. to rededicate to their work and to do whatever they can for the people. He expressed belief that through the initiative of skill development courses, the dept. would be able to provide 20,000 jobs in various sectors.
