Imphal, Feb. 20 (EMN): A combined team of state police commandoes and Assam Rifles arrested four persons including an active member of the banned Kangliepak Communist Party (People’s War Group) in connection with the planting of an IED (Improvised explosive device) at the gate of Catholic school Canchipur. The IED was planted on the southern gate of the school on Feb. 14.
SP H Jogeshchandra of Imphal West district made an announcement of the arrest during a press conference in Imphal on Wednesday. Apart from Manipur police officers, the Commandant AK Das of 6 Assam Rifles led officers and personnels was also present at the press conference.
The arrested persons are Sagolsem Sanatomba alias Sanajaoba(30) of Langthel in Thoubal district, Sanabam Sanajaoba Mangang(28) of Uripok Kombirei Keithel and Heisnam Kiran Kumar Singh alias Boinao(28) of Moirang Khoiru Leikai in Bishnupur district but presently staying at Khoyathong polem leikai. Sanatomba was arrested around 9pm yesterday while Sanajaoba and Kiran Kumar around 10.30pm yesterday.
Earlier one Sanabam Gunajit (42) a resident of Uripok but presently staying at Khoyathong was arrested,the police officer said. One individual called Mani involved in the case is absconding.
Two mobile handsets, two demand letters of KCP(PWG), one blue active two wheeler (MN01Q/6064) ,one maroon bajaj discover motor cycle (MN04B/6821) and one .32 pistol along with one magazine and 23 .32 pistol ammunitions were recovered from their possession, SP said.
From their disclosure it was known that the IED was planted in connection with the admission quota in the Catholic School Canchipur, he added and appealed to the concerned individuals and parties not to take up such unwanted steps of planting bomb at the educational institutions in the interest of the students. Educational institutions should be kept as a free zone.
