KOHIMA, OCTOBER 13: Kohima District Blindness Control Society (KDBCS), in collaboration with the Naga Hospital, observed 17th World Sight Day on October 13 at Eye OPD, Naga Hospital, on the theme “Prevention and control of the emerging eye disease.” This year the emphasis was on glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, eye injuries and checking of eye pressure.
The free eye check up was led by District Nodal Officer (NPCB), Kohima, Dr. Mereninla Senlem and Dr. Phyantsuthung Patton.Interacting with media persons, Dr. Mereninla Senlem stated that awareness should be created among the people regarding eye problems. She suggested that people, who are 40 years and above, should go for regular eye check up every year even without any history of eye problems.
She also stressed that people with history of diabetes and glaucoma in the family should examine their eye sight so that preventive measures can be initiated at the initial stages of the disease.
On the occasion, free eye check-up was given for persons above 50 years. Free medicines and reading glasses were given out to the patients as well. Those suffering from cataract were referred for surgery which can be performed at Naga Hospital free of cost. Altogether 32 patients were registered at the eye check-up camp.
Mon Hospital conducts eye camp
Dimapur: To commemorate winning of Kayakalp Award, District Hospital Mon, organised an eye camp for cataract operation on October 13. The eye camp was organised by the Hospital Management Committee in collaboration with National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB), Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland.
Dr. Punsokiu, SPO, NPCB, elaborated on the significance of organising the eye camp. He said the eye camp is being organised to commemorate the achievement of Kayakalp award by the District Hospital Mon on the World Sight Day and also to prevent and control blindness and give necessary guidance on prevention of eye injuries.
He added that spectacles will be provided free of cost to the elderly people. He has attributed the team work and effort of the District Hospital staff and the public that enabled them to win the Kayakalp Award.
Lomei, president KNSK, on behalf of the Konyak community, thanked all the doctors who have come all the way from Kohima and Dimapur for the eye camp. She urged all the people to avail the opportunity and treat themselves well.
The doctors were Dr. T Kushio, eye surgeon; Dr. Imnapokum, eye surgeon; Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung, SMO; and Dr. Punsokiu, SPO, NPCB.
The programme was led by Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung, SMO, while YP David, Chaplain DH Mon, invoked God’s presence and Dr. Kechongol Sophie, MS, DH, Mon, delivered the welcome address.
