Dimapur, October 31: Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland observed the Vigilance Week 2016 on the theme “Public participation in promoting integrity and eradicating corruption.”
DIPR: Department of Information & Public Relations observed the Vigilance Awareness Week at the DIPR conference hall. Director IPR, Limawati Ao, said corruption is not just taking bribes but also implies in not coming to office on time or being absent without leave.
“We failed on our part if we do not serve the public efficiently because we derive our salaries from the tax paid by the public. People hardly pay taxes here, so we do not really care about corruption when it comes to government’s money which is public money,” he asserted.
The Director expressed happiness on the record maintained in the IPR Department where no major corruption case was reported. He said even a small department can make a difference in the State by setting good example.
All the staff and officials pledged to work unstintingly for eradication of corruption in all spheres.
KOHIMA: Kohima district administration and Lead Bank Kohima will observe the Vigilance Awareness Week in the DC’s conference hall, Kohima, on November 1 at 1 PM. During the observance, Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor, will deliver a speech and administer the pledge, while Assistant Commissioner Kohima, Reny Wilfred, will speak on the theme. SBI, RBO, Dimapur, Thangboi Lunkim, AGM, will deliver a short speech.
MON: In Mon, Vigilance Week was observed in the DC’s conference hall with Tumben P Tsanglao, EAC (P), as the resource person, sponsored by SBI, Mon branch.
The resource person spoke on ‘What is vigilance & corruption, why vigilance and anti corruption is needed in our society.’ He also gave an overview of central vigilance commission, Nagaland state vigilance commission, ethics and integrity in work place, public participation, institutional framework of the vigilance commission, why corruption is harmful and a way forward towards single standard morality.
An essay competition was also held on the topic in the theme of Vigilance Week where Shatwang Konyak of GHSS ‘A’ secured the first position, while Teihzei Konyak of GHS ‘C’ secured the second position and Mankai of GHSS ‘D’ secured the third position. The winners were awarded with cash prizes.
LONGLENG: In Longleng, Vigilance Awareness Week was jointly organised by the district administration and SBI Longleng Branch in the DC’s conference hall with Y Nuklu Phom, Executive Secretary of Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) as the guest speaker.
The speaker encouraged the gathering to maintain and uphold their integrity and work towards eradicating corruption. He emphasised on the need of reforming oneself and thereby affecting positive changes in the society.
The programme was attended by heads of offices, representatives from Phom People Council, Phomla Hoichem and various NGOs.
WOKHA: In Wokha, Vigilance Awareness Week was observed in the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall.
Speaking from students’ point of view on ‘Corruption according to me and how it can be tackled,’ Bideno Humtsoe, BA 3rd Semester student of Mt. Tiyi College, highlighted on corruption prevailing in many organisations where funds/ schemes meant for the poor and the citizens were misused for personnel gain. She opined that Nagaland being a Christian State needs churches to play an important role in curbing the menace. She also appealed to all citizens to voice out and join hands and make corruption free society.
Thungdemo Kyong, Chief of Team Metamorphosis, Wokha, who also spoke on ‘How in my opinion, can public participation promote integrity and eradicate corruption,’ said we should be bold enough to fight corruption irrespective of creed, colour and status. He appealed to unite and fight corruption.
SDO (C) Wokha, Asalie Lese, led the participants in reading out the Pledge.
