Dimapur, Nov. 9 (EMN): Commemorating the Legal Service Day, various District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) launched a ten-day campaign on the theme ‘Connecting to serve’ from November 9 to 18. The campaign was launched with the aim to make public aware about the various functions and activities of legal services authority and availability of free legal services.
During the campaign, DLSAs would carry out activities such as door-to-door campaign, hoardings in public places, legal assistance desks, advertisement (print and electronic), walkathon/ cycle/ motorbike rallies etc, declamation, advertisement on State transport buses, NALSA documentaries, awareness camps and awareness in prisons.
WOKHA: To mark the occasion, Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) organised a walkathon in Wokha town from Zero Point to Police Point. Fagging off the walkathon, Wezope Kenye, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, encouraged the gathering to be legally aware of their rights, duties and provisions. He thanked the WDLSA for their services and assured possible assistance from the administration.
Also speaking on the occasion, Mhao Humtsoe, Chairman of Lotha Hoho, has appreciated WDLSA for reaching out to everyone. He pointed out that ignorance of law is no excuse and added that everyone should be aware of the legal rights.
Altogether 130 persons from 6 schools, police personnel, DPRO staff, CWC members, SDO (C) Wokha, EAC Wokha, members of Wokha Bar Association along with Secretary WDLSA, panel lawyers and para legal volunteers took part in the walkathon.

MOKOKCHUNG: Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA), in collaboration Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, organised a one-day mental health camp at CHC, Mangkolemba.
A team of 5 members with Dr. Yanger, psychiatrist of Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, Mokokchung, and MDLSA panel lawyer examined the patients. Altogether 13 mentally ill persons were examined during the camp.
MDLSA also organised legal awareness workshop at ADC (Planning) conference hall.
The resource person and DDLSA retainer lawyer, Nathaniel Kevichusa, spoke on legal services authority and the various schemes under NALSA, while legal aid counsel and trainer NSLSA, Limathung, spoke on cyber laws in India, and Limasenla Longkumer, legal aid counsel and trainer NSLSA, spoke on child labour and human trafficking.
Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) has organised a celebration cum prize distribution programme in the DC’s conference hall.
Delivering short speech, Shaying Sheu, SDO (C), Judicial, lamented that public in the State finds it hard to consume the law. He hoped that the campaign would go a long way in imparting legal awareness.
Delivering keynote address and launching the campaign, Y Maongkaba Imchen, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman KDLSA, said that constitutional commitment for legal aid can only be cherished if society comes forward to care for the vulnerable section. He, therefore, urged the gathering to educate and create awareness amongst the less privileged and weaker sections of society.
The SDO gave away cash award and certificates to the winners of the essay writing competition on the topic “Child Rights.” The first position was bagged by Rakuonuo, Class VIII student of Pinewood School, while the second position was won by Theja, Class IX student of Mount Hermon Higher Secondary School, and the third position was won by Priscilla Tep, Class IX of Baptist High. Six students were conferred consolation prize.
Tuensang District Legal Services Authority distributed pamphlets on free and competent legal aid during the closing ceremony of 25th edition of Loyem Memorial Senior Soccer Open Championship.
Earlier, the pamphlet was released by Ngamen, Convener 25th edition of Loyem Memorial Senior Soccer open championship. The pamphlets were distributed to around 5500 crowd and guest present at the ceremony.
Dimapur Legal Services Authority visited Central jail headed by Hukato Swu, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman DDLSA. The DDLSA members held an interaction session with the inmates, jailor and Assistant Jailor.
DDLSA also put up hoardings around Dimapur and imparted legal awareness by handing out pamphlets and flyers.
Kiphire District Legal Services Authority has organised legal awareness cum prize distribution in the DC’s conference hall.
Sedevikho Khro, Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, gave away prizes to winners of the essay writing competition held on November 3 on ‘Childs Right.’ Ajungla and Suzi Sangtam of Saramati View Modern High School won the 1st and 2nd prizes respectively. Pirila of EL Beth won the 3rd prize.
Peren District Legal Services Authority also observed the Legal Services Day with the village functionaries in Kejanglwa village.
Panel lawyer, Asungbe, spoke on Lok Adalat, Rights of an arrested person, while Italang, APP, spoke on Village Council Act, and Asuni, panel lawyer, spoke on domestic violence. Somet Chang, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary PDLSA, spoke on significance of legal services day and legal services authority.
Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) and Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) also organised legal awareness programmes in their respective district. To mark the occasion, Phek District Legal Services Authority also put up hoardings around Phek town.
