Dimapur, June 26 (EMN): The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It is observed annually on June 26, since 1988, to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society. The day is supported by individuals, communities and various organizations all over the world.
According to UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), nearly 200 million people are using illicit drugs such as cocaine, cannabis, hallucinogens, opiates and sedative hypnotics worldwide.
Pfütsero: The International Day against Drug Abuse was observed by 9 Assam Rifles in collaboration with Lightway Society, Kalos Society, Red Cross Society and Kripa Foundation in Pfutsero.
As a second phase of its campaign, the team organised a sensitization workshop on against anti drug and HIV/AIDS. The campaign was carried out in the form of rall
y. Pfütsero town youth, students of TMT school, troops of 9 Assam Rifles, NGOs and public, walk in town with banners, placards and posters to create awareness among people with the harmful effects of drugs and awareness on prevention of HIV/AIDS.
Program Manager of Kripa Foundation and master trainer, Vikholie Yiese, in his lecture emphasised on substance abuse on drug, alcohol and narcotics.
The objective of the programme was highlighted by Project Director of Lightway Society, Vesusa Tetseo.

The Pfutsero Youth Front and people of Pfutsero appreciated the initiative of the organisers in educating and creating awareness.
CCA: Cultural Club of Ahthibung (CCA) observed International Day against Drugs Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, under the theme, “Listen first” on June 26 at Ahthibung Town Hall, with Extra Assistant Commissioner( EAC), Lithrila Sangtam as chief guest.
Representatives from Kuki Inpi Nagaland, Town Committee Ahthibung, GBs of Ahthibung, teachers from various schools, Church leaders and public attended the peogramme..
Christina Memorial School: commemoration of the International Day against drug abuse and Trafficking, Christina Memorial School organised an awareness program on June 26, with Dr. C Tetseo, DNO NTCP as a resource the person.
The resource person gave a powerpoint presentation on drug and tobacco addiction and how to stay away from them.
Limaienla chaired the programme while Hikato pronounced invocation and vice principal, Temsujungla proposed vote of thanks.
Kanoli Yeptho presented a special number. At the end of the programme, members took pledge to stay away from drug and tobacco.
