Dimapur, November 28: Nagaland observed the Indian Constitution Day on November 28 at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat’s conference hall, Kohima.
Chairing the programme, the Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar said the country is observing the Constitution Day from 2015 on November 26 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, who played an important role in the framing of Indian Constitution as convenor.
The Chief Secretary led the reading of the preamble of the Indian constitution.
Meanwhile, the officers, staff and DBs of Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kohima, observed the Indian Constitution Day at the DC’s conference hall.
Briefing about the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor, said the Indian Constitution Day was declared since 2015 by the central government. He said the Constitution is a core legal document which lists out fundamental rights of citizens, duties and roles of government, interaction between the government and its citizens, powers of Prime Minister, President, Governors, chief ministers and all members.
Adding that 67 years ago on November 26, 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted, he said the Constitution Day is observed to pay tribute to Dr. Ambedkar, who was the Chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian Constitution. He also led in reading the pledge of the Constitution of India.
