Dimapur, November 14:Different schools across Nagaland observed Children’s Day by organising various events such as painting competition, medical camp and felicitating meritorious students on November 14.
In Mokokchung, Children’s Day was celebrated with the reigning Miss Mokokchung Ayusangla Jamir at Little Folks Nursery School in Mopungchuket village.
Speaking on the occasion, she said Children’s Day is a day to engage in fun and renew commitment toward welfare of children and to imbibe the values of discipline, sense of order, cleanliness and beauty.
Proprietor of Little Folks Nursery School, Lemsemsangla, and VEC chairman also spoke on the occasion.
Little Folks Nursery School was started in March 2016 basing on the necessity for children to have a proper pre-schooling in the village. The reigning Miss Mokokchung was accompanied by parents, friends, and well-wishers.
KOHIMA: Don Bosco Higher Secondary School celebrated Parents cum Children’s Day with the Bishop of Kohima Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, as the chief guest.
The Bishop, in his message, spoke of God’s gift of love lived and shared by parents and children. He termed the twin celebration as a family celebration of parents and children.
He advised the children to be ever grateful and pray for their parents and to the parents to love their children. He said the values lived and taught in the family are further extended and lived in a wider circle.
The programme commenced with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Alex Sdb, the school vice principal.
The children entertained audience and delighted the parents with the mesmerizing show of their multi-faced talents in singing, instrumentals, dances, choreography, choir, ethnic wear, etc.
DPO: Exodus Disabled People Organisation (DPO) Federation Dimapur in collaboration with CHILDLINE Dimapur celebrated Children’s Day with the special children at Prodigals’ Home Resource Centre with the participation of more than 80 disabled children along with parents.
Mrs. Longthongo, vice president of the Federation, welcomed the gathering, while Mrs Roshullo, president of the Federation, spoke on disabilities and Neiketulie, city coordinator of CHILLDINE Dimapur, spoke on CHILDLINE and the services.
The members distributed gift hampers to all the children.
WOKHA: Children’s Day in Wokha was celebrated at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) Wokha, with Dr. Zuben Kikon as the chief guest.
Addressing the members, Dr. Zuben urged the students to be pro-active in all aspects saying education is not only about gaining textbooks knowledge. He advised them to be equipped for all round development with a sound mind and body.
He also advised the pupils to have competitive spirit and pursue for excellence in studies.
He further encouraged the pupils to be ambitious, energetic and to keep working till they achieve success in life. He also thanked the teachers of DBHHS for building ‘future of the nation.’

Troops of Assam Rifles in association with Peren Town Youth Organization organised various programme for school students across Peren district on the occasion of Children’s Day celebration.
To foster the spirit of competition and creativity among the youth, painting competition on theme peace, unity, environment preservation, black money etc. was conducted in Peren town, where twenty students from four schools participated.
Hiadahing Haihing of All Saints Higher Secondary School, Peren, was declared as the winner, while Iziedile of Baptist High School, Peren, and Chunchun Iheilung of All Saints Higher Secondary School were declared second and third winners respectively.
Alongside the painting competition, free medical camp was also conducted, wherein the students availed free medical check-up.
Another programme was conducted at Jalukie Town and Tenning town, with the aim to provide a platform to students to get better exposure and understanding about Indian Army. The troops had an interaction and distributed sweets to the students.
