State observes Beti Bachao Beti Padhao week

[caption id="attachment_229600" align="aligncenter" width="565"] Residents of Mon town taking out a public rally as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, on January 22.[/caption] Dimapur, Jan. 23 (EMN): National Girl Child Day and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao week on the theme “Empower the girl child by educating her” was observed across the state. National Girl Child Day was observed at GHSS Pfutsero on January 21 with SDPO Pfutsero, Aotula Imchen, and the director of CWWS Vechulou Kanuo, as the theme speakers. Aotula, speaking on the topic ‘Empowering the girl child through education,’ stated that Naga society is performing better comparing to others and added that education is basic to make impact on the society or achieve anything in life irrespective of being a girl child or a boy child. She further stated that education makes one self confident, raises self esteem, improves communication skills, gives courage to face society, helps in health and family welfare and also improves economic standing of the family. She also stressed on the importance of education to a girl child. She concluded by quoting ‘when you educate a man, you educate an individual but when you educate a woman, you educate a nation’. Vechulou Kanuo speaking on the topic ‘Promoting gender equality in the family and society,’ said gender equality is a state of having equal access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender. She also said that gender equality is not about human rights but a foundation for peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. She further added that gender equality does not mean that men and women should always be treated the same as God has created men and women with biological differences. She added that there are certain works that require men alone and vice versa and said that what is required is not equal treatment but equitable treatment. Stating that gender equality is an issue for both men and women, she said one should not misuse it or else would not achieve any of the global goals. In her concluding speech she said learning have no gender discrimination and encouraged the girls to walk an extra in order to achieve their goals. The programme was chaired by the school’s principal, Vechikhoyi Lohe, while the keynote address was delivered by ADC Pfutsero, Zeneikhonuo Vimero and the vote of thanks was pronounced by SDO Pfutsero, Dr. Diana Patton. In a similar programme, a public awareness rally in support of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao on the theme ‘Save the girl child’ was held in Mon town on January 22. The students of Wangkhao College, Mon, undertook the rally from the deputy commissioner’s office complex and culminated at local ground, Mon. Besides the students, faculty and district administration participated in the rally by holding banners and placards. A short programme was conducted at the local ground where the students and faculty took the pledge to save the girls child and to educate girl child. In yet another programme, Chukitong block task force has launched the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao week on January 21 at Dobhashi Court, Chukitong town. The program was chaired by EAC Chukitong. Anganwadi workers under CDPO Chukitong and ASHAs under PHC Chukitong attended the programme. Also marking the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao week, Chukitong block task force has flagged off a signature campaign in Chukitong town and Tsungiki village on January 22. EAC Chukitong, Imliakum Sanglir, while launching the campaign, encouraged the area council chairmen, head GBs and the public to participate in the campaign in order to make the program a success. The participants were encouraged to endorse their signatures on the BBBP banners in support of the campaign. The signature campaign would continue till January 26.
