  • SMPB organises buyer-seller meet for mdeical plants

    The stakeholders’-cum-buyer-seller meet on medicinal plants in Nagaland ongoing in Kohima on March 26.

  • DIMAPUR — The State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB), the Ayush wing of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW), organised a state-level stakeholders'-cum-buyer-seller meet on medicinal plants in Kohima on March 26.

  • According to an update, the event was attended by dignitaries and representatives from various departments, including Anoop Khinchi, Commissioner and Secretary, H&FW, Dr. E Motsuthung Patton, Principal Director, H&FW, and Supongnukshi, Chief Conservator of Forests, Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

  • Speaking on the occasion, Dr. T Bendangtula Jamir, Chief Executive Officer of SMPB, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the various activities undertaken by SMPB in the state under the directive of the National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of AYUSH.

  • In his speech, Khinchi urged the stakeholders to develop the medicinal plants sector through convergence and cooperation among various departments and stakeholders related to the sector. He advocated for the organic certification of medicinal plants and emphasised taking advantage of the ideal landscape for medicinal plant cultivation.

  • Dr. Patton noted the value of medicinal plants in the healthcare system and the preservation of this valuable knowledge. Supongnukshi shared the Forest department's initiative for the conservation of medicinal plants in the state and the activities undertaken by the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board for the maintenance of the People's Biodiversity Register.

  • The technical session was moderated by Dr. Moaakum, assistant professor (Botany), Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, and Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Silviculture Division and CEO-ROJB, NFMP, EF&CC.

  • An industry representative from Cultivator Natural Products Pvt. Ltd., Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Lalit Kumar, discussed the cultivation and marketing potential of medicinal plants in Nagaland. Pankaj Kalita, managing director of Wubito Eco International Pvt. Ltd., Guwahati, presented on the benefits of Stevia and its marketing. Representatives from Momsie Enterprise Pvt. Ltd. highlighted the value addition through various available medicinal plants.

  • Dr. Mitali Mehta, scientist-B, ICFRE-RFRI Jorhat, highlighted the challenges and solutions regarding the medicinal plants scenario in Nagaland. Dr. Seyiekhrietuo John, SPO NAM, H&FW, delivered the vote of thanks.

  • The event was also attended by medicinal farmers, scientists, medical doctors, NGOs, SHGs, BMCs, entrepreneurs, students, and scholars from across the state. Stevia saplings were distributed to the participants during the event.
