DIMAPUR — A two-day state-level review meeting cum orientation on RMNCHA+N (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health + Nutrition) was organised on June 25 and 26 at the IDSP Hall, Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW), in Kohima, under the chairmanship of Dr. Avile Zao, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland.

According to an update addressing the district programme officers (DPOs) – Reproductive Child Health (RCH)/Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP), district programme managers (DPMs), and block programme managers (BPMs) present, Dr. Avile stated that, being the DPOs and DPMs, there is a huge challenge in carrying forward the goals of NHM.

He requested them to put more effort into improving those health indicators which are lagging behind despite all their efforts.

She mentioned that the review meeting was a good opportunity to reflect on the performance of previous years and plan for the coming months and years.

Dr. Avile also commented that, due to their efforts, the state’s infant mortality rate (IMR) remains one of the lowest in the country, standing at seven as per SRS 2022, and expressed hope that the remaining key indicators will improve in the coming years.

Welcoming the district representatives, Dr. Khelito Zhimomi, State Programme Officer, RMNCHA+N, also appealed to take this opportunity for cross-learning between the districts, especially on the best practices.

Presentations were made on the district’s achievements and status. Discussions were held on the challenges, opportunities, and way forward. They were also orientated on the different key components of RMNCHA+N, including the management of high-risk pregnancy, anaemia, SUMAN, Laqshya, Musqan, Maternal Perinatal Child Death Surveillance and Response, family planning, and key components under child health.
