Kohima, Feb. 5 (EMN): The first state-level online philatelic exhibition dubbed as ‘Nagapex’ culminated on Saturday with Amitabh Kharkwal, chief postmaster general, North East Circle, Shillong, as chief guest.
In his address, which was delivered virtually, Kharkwal lauded Nagaland for its rich cultural heritage and history. He maintained that there is much scope in philately where one could learn about the various cultures.
The deputy commissioner (DC) of Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, who graced the programme as guest of honour, appreciated the initiative taken by the Nagaland division of the Postal department in organising the exhibition online amidst the prevailing situation. He pointed out that the philatelic exhibition was introduced in Nagaland in 1999 and has been going and organised as an annual event.
He maintained that philatelic was not only about stamp collection but also studying whatever has been collected- the motive behind, the background saying that a lot has to be learned.
While exuding hope that more students would participate in the days ahead, Thejawelie urged the department to organise more programmes and bring more students under the hobby.
The special guest and principal district and session judge of Dimapur, Inalo Zhimomi, highlighted the benefits and gave tips for the practice of philatelic to the participants. He also put forth suggestions to the Postal department to help out in every district of having philately clubs in schools and also organise activities stating that it would be helpful in promoting philately and stamp collection.
Zhimomi also drew the attention of the department to organise letter writing day among other activities.
A speech was also delivered by Som Kamei, postmaster general of North East Region-II, Dimapur, while a short video on Hornbill Festival was also screened.
On the occasion, a special cover on Nagapex 2022 was also released at Hotel De Oriental Grand in Kohima on Saturday. Nagapex 2022 depicted a hornbill feather, which is used in traditional Naga attires to signify prestige and honour.
It was informed that 16 students from Nagaland have displayed 135 exhibitions under youth category, while 12 participants under invitee category have displayed 721 exhibits from Nagaland and across the country. Besides, 42 participants from 40 schools have participated in the miniature postcard competition.
