KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 27: Highlighting on the existing diversity of the State, Sarah Ritse, Secretary of School Education said that not only children but all of us are stakeholders of our culture.
Speaking at the State level Kala Utsav (Festival of Arts) celebration and competition held on the theme ‘Living traditions of arts,’ organised by Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Seikhazou, Kohima, on September 27, Sarah Ritse stressed that each and every school should get the opportunity to participate in such events.
Taking advantage of modern technology, she said we can revive our culture and tradition to be taught to the younger generations. Appreciating the initiative taken by the Government of India (GOI) to promote arts, she said it is an opportunity for young kids to remain attached to the culture.

In a brief introduction on Kala Utsav, Timothy Thong, DMD & programme coordinator Kala Utsav, said the Ministry of Human Resource, GOI, had initiated Kala Utsav in 2015 to counter westernisation which has threatened the unique Naga culture. Kala Utsav covers four aspect of art forms namely music, dance, theatre and visual arts.
By promoting arts in education, through showcasing and nurturing the aesthetic and artistic talents of the students at schools, he said this is one of the greatest avenues for the students. He mentioned that the competition is held at the district level and then at the State level saying the best teams that win at the state level competition in the four arts form will be competing at the national level in Delhi.
Altogether eight schools from different districts are participating at the state level. The participating schools are GHSS Phek, GHSS Zunheboto, GHS Chuchuyimlang, GHSS Wokha, GHSS Kiphire, GHSS Thongjam, Jubilee Memorial School Mokokchung and GHSS Pfutsero.
GHSS Zunheboto and GHS Chuchuyimlang were declared winners in the dance category, while GHSS Kiphire and GHSSS Wokha were declared winners in the music category. Jubilee Memorial School,. Mokokchung, was declared winner in the theatre category and GHSS Pfutsero in visual arts category.
