Kohima, May 12 (EMN): The two-day state-level inter-high school badminton and table tennis tournament concluded at Indoor Badminton and Table Tennis Stadium in Kohima on Friday evening with Kohima topping the chart by winning 10 prizes, including two first positions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Commissioner and Secretary, Youth Resources and Sports, Wezope Kenye congratulated the participants for their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, while expressing hope that the students will keep on practicing to excel at the national and international levels.
Sports plays a crucial role in education, not only in terms of physical health but also in developing important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and perseverance, he said, adding that through sports, a person learns the value of discipline, focus, and hard work, which are equally essential for success in every aspects of life.

While lauding the achievements of the winners who exhibited exceptional talent and skill in their respective fields, he reminded the participants that their success was an outcome of their hard work, dedication, and the countless hours of practice and training; a team effort with coaches, teammates, and supporters who played a crucial role in their journey.
Towards this, Kenye said teamwork is a critical component of success in sports and in life as well, and advised the gathering to work with others to achieve their goals.
The official also encouraged the participants to continue practicing and competing, and not to forget the importance of building relationships. Further, he told the students to learn from their mistakes, grow with experience, and use their strengths to overcome obstacles while embracing individuality, celebrating accomplishments, and continuing to strive towards excellence.
A total of 11 districts -- Phek, Mon, Wokha, Kohima, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Dimapur, Mokochung, Peren and Zunheboto -- participated in the tournament organized by the department of Youth Resources and Sports, government of Nagaland.
