Kohima, Sep. 15 (EMN): Joining with the rest of India to create a clean, healthy and new India, a Swachhata Hi Sewa (cleanliness is service) fortnight campaign was launched was at PHED’s conference hall, Kohima, on Friday evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Yhusinglo Tep, Director of Water and Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO), PHED, and Mission Director of Swatch Bharat Nagaland, stressed on the need for free open defecation in Nagaland and urged the people to know the importance of sanitation.
The Director administered the Swachhata Hi Seva pledge to promote cleanliness drive in households, schools and colleges, health centres, railway stations, bus stops, ponds and all other places, elimination of open defecation in villages and towns through construction of twin pit toilets in rural areas, to adopt behaviour change by using toilets and washing hands and adoption of other Swachh practices and management of solid and liquid waste by adopting principle of “reduce, recycle and reuse” and safe management of solid and liquid waste.
Speaking to this correspondent, he said ever since the inception of Swachh Bharat Mission in October 2014, they were able to declare four districts in Nagaland as open defecation free namely Mokokchung, Kiphire, Zunheboto and Longleng.
The programme was chaired by Repang Longkumer, Additional Chief Engineer, PHED, while the invocation was said by S Pausen Phom.
The fortnight long campaign will conclude on October 2 coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti.
