PB Acharya hopes state government will fulfill duties and responsibilities

Governor P.B. Acharya asserted to uphold the highest traditions of the office and work for the principles that are sacred to the democratic values.
In his address during a reception hosted by the Chief Minister TR Zeliang in honour of the new Governor and his family and visiting friends at the State Banquet Hall here this evening, Acharya said “our actions must be result oriented and purposeful”.
Acharya, who has been in the state on several occasions on political engagement as BJP leader in-charge of North East, stated “Nagaland is not only blessed with the natural beauty of the landscape but also natural resources such as oil, coal, limestone and forest products etc.”Nevertheless, he said, “peace is essential for all-round development of the state and without peace, no society can progress”.
Maintaining that peace requires understanding and appreciation of differences, the new Governor said peace can only be achieved when there is unity in diversity. He said Nagaland has been progressing towards the right direction even in terms of Human Resources. With continuous government help and support, much advancement has been made in terms of education and literacy level, which now stands at 79.55%.
He also appreciated that cultural performance and contemporary music by various Naga artists while wishing “let the Naga music go to the whole world and people know what Nagas are”. He conveyed best wishes, peace and prosperity to the people of Nagaland.
CM Zeliang hopes Nagas will have new dawn
Chief Minister TR Zeliang in his welcome address said that the political aspiration of Nagas and demand for political rights is more than six decades old. He expressed the hope that the Acharya will be able to play a vital role as Governor of the state in helping the parties arrive at a solution acceptable to birth the entities and the Naga people.
Highlighting the ‘precarious financial crunch’ of the state, Zeliang said “we are expecting much from the friendly government at the Centre under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who has renewed hope for a new and vibrant India”. Stating the government is giving prime importance to development of youth and its related activities, Zeliang said, “unless we secure a future for our youths, the state will continue to have an uncertain future”.
Reiterating that Nagaland is resource scarce state, he said the only option is to generate our own resources through exploitation of the mineral resources. “We have accordingly made our state legal framework for exploiting petroleum and natural gas and requested the Centre to support our framework. The government wants to enact such legal frameworks in respect of other mineral resources as well,” he said. Zeliang therefore expressed high hope that under the stewardship of the new Governor Nagaland’s economy will take a new turn towards self-sufficiency.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also assured the new Governor that the State Cabinet, Parliamentary Secretaries, government officials and the Naga people will always support and assist him in discharging his duties. “We hope the people of Nagaland will see a new dawn under your benevolent guardianship,” he said. Colourful cultural presentations by Zeliang, Sangtam and Khiamniungan dance troupes, Tati by Tetseo Sisters and contemporary music by Menguse-u Soukhrie, Topeni, Alobo Naga and Nagaland Chamber Choir marked the occasion.
