on Wednesday.
- DIMAPUR — The
two-week-long State Handloom Expo 2025 (Hathkargha Mela) under Aatmnirbhar
Bharat Utsav, "My Handloom, My Pride," organised by the Nagaland Apex
Weavers and Artisans Cooperative Federation Ltd., Dimapur, and sponsored by the
Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, began on Wednesday
at Gorkha Public Panchayat Hall, Chandmari, Kohima.
- Speaking at the inaugural programme, Rokovisa Chase, joint
registrar of Cooperative Societies, encouraged the weavers and artisans to
maintain the quality of their products and emphasised how the products should
be diversified, stated an update.
- He also encouraged them to be innovative, noting that more
products could be made as the platform not only provides an opportunity to
showcase and sell products but also serves as a space where market linkages can
be created.
- Further, he stated that despite the lack of market linkages,
Nagaland has skilled weavers, and the government is emphasising and
streamlining the market linkages sector. He also stressed the importance of the
handloom sector and encouraged the weavers, noting that the central government
is focusing more on local production and promoting it on the global platform.
- Chase also highlighted the Weavers Mudra Scheme and the
Handloom Marketing Assistance (HMA) Scheme, which aim to develop and promote
marketing channels in both domestic and export markets and to build linkages
between the two in a holistic and integrated manner.
- Managing director Gwaruno Khing informed that the main
objective of the expo is to provide a platform for weavers and artisans to
exhibit and sell their products, with 60 stalls participating in the ongoing
expo, which will culminate on March 11.
