Chief Minister T R Zeliang, who is currently in New Delhi, met Kiren Rijiju, Home Minister of State and apprised him of the latest incident that had taken place. The Chief Minister requested the Government of India to insist on the NSCN (K) to reconsider their stand and extend the ceasefire agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (K) as the people of Nagaland want peace. “Killings and acts of violence will not bring solution. It is only through dialogue and negotiation alone that permanent settlement and peace can be brought about which is the ultimate desire of the people,” said a press statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.It then informed that an emergency Cabinet meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s Office chaired by Kiyanilie Peseyie deliberated and discussed on the unfortunate ambush on the Assam Rifles by NSCN (K) of May 3 Mon incident. It conveyed its anguish over the loss of precious lives. The Cabinet expressed its deep concern over the incident that took place in spite of its appeal issued earlier to maintain the ceasefire. The Cabinet emphasized that killings in any manner cannot bring about solution to the prolonged Naga political problem and appealed to all concerned to desist from violence.
