Dimapur, July 7 (EMN): In a run-up to the launching of nation-wide Measles-Rubella (MR) campaign scheduled on October 3, concerned departments and organisations in the state have organised review meetings in their respective districts.
Dimapur: District task force committee, Dimapur, has held a meeting on July 6 in the DC’s conference hall, Dimapur. Chairing the meeting, ADC Dimapur, Albert Ezung, spoke briefly on the importance of MR campaign in India. He has requested the departments to identify those areas with higher population and chalk out strategy and give constant monitoring.
Dr. Abhishek from World Health Organisation (WHO) said the aim of MR campaign is to eliminate measles and control Rubella. He has also highlighted on the objectives, plans and importance of MR campaign through power point presentation. He said the campaign was to eliminate measles and control rubella in the county by 2020.
Rubella causes in abortion, still birth and serious birth defects. The complication in rubella and measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children even though vaccine is available, he said.
Dr. Rebecca, DIO, has stressed on the role and responsibilities of various departments in MR vaccination campaign since the medical department alone would not be possible to achieve its desired results.
All the members also shared their ideas, concerns and suggestions.
Longleng: Longleng district task force has held a review meeting under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner, John Tsulise Sangtam, on July 6 in the DC’s conference hall, Longleng.
Addressing the review meeting, the deputy commissioner appealed to all concerned for cent percent coverage of MR campaign. He said MR vaccination is a central flagship programme, which is provided free of cost adding the vaccine is not available in the private clinic.
He informed that MR vaccination is a single shot vaccine for lifetime to control both measles and rubella diseases. He has urged all the concerned to spread maximum awareness to the populace in their respective jurisdiction to ensure 100% coverage for the safety of children and their future.
Dr. Meren, DPO (RCH & UIP), Longleng, made a power point presentation on measles and rubella campaign. He informed that children between nine months to 15 years would be vaccinated during the campaign covering all schools, hospitals, health centres, community and door to door campaign to ensure full coverage.
Dr. Meren stated that there is no specific cure and treatment for both measles and rubella but can be prevented only by vaccination. He also informed that children who have vaccinated earlier could be vaccinated again as a supplementary dose to provide additional protection to children.
Wokha: A district level workshop was organised on July 7 in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall, Wokha.
Addressing the gathering, the DC has lauded the noble initiative by the Government of India and appealed every stakeholder to get involve in order to ensure success of the programme. He has stressed on the necessity of holding consultative meetings of the DEOs and CDBOs by involving churches, village functionaries and educational institutions for the successful implementation of the campaign.
During the programme, Seema S Koshal, RRT-WHO, dwelled on the objective of the workshop, while Dr. Khelito Zhimomi, DPO-UIP/RCH, has dwelled on planning, recording, reporting and monitoring, tools and rollout plan with timelines and other guidelines.
Dr. Chibenthung, MO Humtsoe PHC, spoke on AEFI treatment/ management during MR campaign, organising vaccination sessions including injection safety and waste management in MR campaign, while Dr. Kuokholie Savino, RBSK-MO Wokha, has emphasised on the importance of FAQs on MR vaccination campaign including routine immunisation and advocacy communication and social mobilisation for MR vaccination campaign.
Altogether, 42 participants including medical officers, representatives from CHC, PHC, army hospital, NEEPCO hospital, BACs and BPMs attended the one-day workshop.
