Dimapur, April 18 (EMN): A two-day workshop on ‘LaQshya’—the national labour room quality improvement initiative and maternal and child death surveillance and response—got underway at the conference hall of the Directorate of H&FW, Kohima, on April 18.
Addressing participants at the event, the director of Health and Family Welfare R Ramakrishnan, said that the state’s Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is ‘better compared to the national level’s data.’ He has appealed to the health service providers to strive towards achieving 0% IMR and MMR, updates from the DIPR stated.
LaQshya focuses on the quality of labour rooms, Ramakrishnan said. For his reason, the officer urged the members to work toward improving the institution delivery in the state. He also highlighted on the two important upcoming events in the state namely Mission Indradhanush, which focuses on full immunisation, and Ayushman Divas, which falls on April 30 for health insurance of family living below poverty line.
The director requested further the medical practitioners to work hard for the successful implementation of these programmes.
Dr. Kevichusa Medikhrü, mission director of the National Health Mission, also expressed his concern at the ‘incidents of MMR and IMR in the labour room.’ As the programme focuses on strengthening labour room services, he requested the participants to take the workshop seriously as pertains to the life of mother and child. Further, the event can clear their queries and doubts, they were told.
The LaQshya aims to adopt a holistic and comprehensive approach at all levels of care to improve and strengthen Quality of Care (QoC) during intra partum and immediate post partum periods and especially the satisfaction of the beneficiary.
In Nagaland, the implementation would be carried out in a phase-wise manner. It was informed that the 1st phase implementation would be launched in the District Hospitals of Kiphire, Mon, Longleng and Tuensang to be followed by the remaining districts.
The resource persons of the two-day workshop are Dr. AmitYadav, senior technical officer at the minister of Health and Family Welfare; Dr. Amrita John, consultant at the minister of Health and Family Welfare; Narender Jangra, regional coordinator (NE); Dr. Supongmeren of Mon district hospital.
