Dimapur, July 24 (EMN): With the existing seven fire stations at Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Peren, Kohima North, Longleng, Tuli and Dimapur with two more to be inaugurated shortly, Nagaland still falls short of 31 fire stations as envisaged by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.
As per MHA report, Nagaland state should have 48 fire stations. Since 2011, State government have established seven fire stations at Chumukedima, Kiphire, Peren, Kohima-North, Longleng, Tuli and Dimapur. Two more fire stations would be inaugurated shortly.
This was disclosed by the Advisor of Fire and Emergency Services, Pohwang Konyak, at the inauguration of a fire station in Dimapur West on July 23. Pohwand stated that the State would establish nine more fire stations making it to a total of 17 within eight years. Despite the setting up of 17 more of fire stations, Pohwang stated that the State would still have a shortage of 31 fire stations. He, however, assured to strive towards achieving the requirements in the days to come.
Pohwang inaugurated the fire station in Dimapur West on July 23 in the presence of officials from various departments and public leaders. The programme was chaired by Neilasa Sopfü, IG (F&ES).
Er. Imsanenla Imchen, SDO, Police Engineering Project, highlighted on the details of the project which was funded by NEC. The project was executed by M/s. P Suohu under the supervision of Police Engineering Project.
Pohwang stated that the department is striving its best to serve the public in spite of various constraints. It was also informed that Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services was bifurcated from Nagaland Police on April 1, 1990, and formed as a separate Directorate with eight fire stations due to its technical profession.
From 2011 onwards, the department had initiated various visions and activities with the approval of the State government. It also mentioned that MHA had conducted a detailed survey about the requirement of fire stations in Nagaland.
As per MHA report, Nagaland should have 48 fire stations. Since 2011, the State government has established seven fire stations at Chumukedima, Kiphire, Peren, Kohima-North, Longleng, Tuli and Dimapur-West. It was also learned that two more fire stations would be inaugurated shortly.
It implied that within eight years, the State government is going to establish nine more stations making it a total of 17 stations. But the State still have a shortage of 31 fire stations.
In conclusion, the Advisor appealed to the public to cooperate with the fire fighters in order to protect lives and properties from fire disaster.
