Keeping election in mind, new vehicles were distributed to DCC presidents at Congress Bhavan in Kohima
KOHIMA, JULY 5 : As a preparation for the forthcoming State general election in 2018, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Tuesday launched the party’s ‘Election War Room’ by distributing vehicles to the presidents of the District Congress Committee (DCC).
In a phase wise manner, six vehicles (Bolero) were distributed to the DCC presidents of Mon, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Wokha, Phek and Zunheboto today in the presence of NPCC president K. Therie and working president P. Ayang Aonok.
The presidents of the remaining five districts including Kohima, Tuensang, Peren, Dimapur and Longleng, will be receiving their share of vehicles in the next phase. The second phase will be carried out during the next few months.
With the launching the NPCC Election War Room, the NPCC president K. Therie said, the objective is to monitor all the eleven districts by providing the vehicles. Having full confidence that the party will be able to perform well in 2018 general election, Therie said the NPCC will go all out as a single party to fight the election.
“We are prepared to fight the next election,” Therie said while talking to media persons after the launching programme.
Replying to a query on the formation of Nagaland Congress Party (NCP) whose members comprised former Congress legislators, the Congress stalwart maintained that the formation of NCP won’t be a setback to the Congress party.
“We are not bothered or worried, because the Congress party at the unit level had not been affected nor moved away with them (NCP) to form the party,” Therie said.
NPCC Working President P. Ayang Aonok informed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had allotted 15 vehicles to the NPCC, while he lauded the active participation of the DCCs for their support and cooperation to revive the Congress party.
Aonok slammed the NPF-led DAN government for becoming insensitive to the issues concerning the Nagas. He was hopeful that the Congress party will come out victorious under the leadership of the incumbent president Therie.
The working president further urged all the party workers at the district level to give their best in the effort to revive the party. The other Congress members also slammed the NPF government for being a corrupt government with false promises and full of lies.
“The NPCC has launched the election war room to fight against a corrupt government,” the party general secretary Dokiu Kicham said voicing his confidence that Congress will form the next government.
The newly launched vehicles were dedicated by Temjen Sempo, associate pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Church. The programme was chaired by Dokiu Kicham, while the vote of thanks was tendered by Jonathan, general secretary, NPCC. The launching programme was also attended by senior Congress members and party workers among others.
PTI Adds: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K Therie today said, NPCC will be the real challenger for NPF in the 2018 hustings as other parties won't pose any threat. “We will be fighting alone," Therie told reporters on the sidelines of a function of the party at Congress Bhavan.
The tenure of the present NPF-led DAN government will end in February 2018. The new breakaway formation would not be able to divide the vote bank of NPCC candidates in the 2018 elections, he claimed, adding all the Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) of NPCC is intact. "None of the ACCCs have gone with suspended leaders, who have formed the new Party," he said. On the formation of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) by BJP with an aim to unite non-Congress parties of the region, he said "lotus (BJP) will not bloom" in the region.
