 State College of Teachers Education Kohima marks 50 years, honours teachers
Officials, dignitaries and SCTE alumni during the golden jubilee celebration at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.


DIMAPUR — The State College of Teachers Education, Kohima (SCTE) celebrated its golden jubilee (1975-2025) on the theme ‘Empowering teachers, enriching lives’ at Capital Convention Centre on Friday.


In her address, ex-officio Director of Higher Education department, V Lovitoly Sema, mentioned that 50 years is not just a measure of time but a testament of truth, resilience and commitment to the cause of education in the state.


She highlighted the journey of SCTE's expansion in academic scopes, stating that through five decades of dedicated service, the college has produced a generation of teachers who had carried its values to every corner of the state, bringing light and knowledge to countless learners.


She added that teachers are the torchbearers of change and empowering them is investing in the moral and intellectual wealth of society.


Lovitoly further highlighted that with the advent of NEP 2020, the college would play a crucial role in imparting holistic education, transforming this vision into reality.


Principal of Mokokchung College of Teachers Education, Dr. T Alemla Longkumer, said that education is a vehicle of change and teachers are the main agents of the change, a DIPR report stated.

She stressed that self-empowerment is key for teachers to navigate the rapid changes in education, from computer-assisted to AI-based learning.

Longkumer also noted that this shift has had a huge impact, and many professions will become obsolete soon. Teachers must adapt and stay updated with tech advancements to remain relevant, she added.


Dr. I Wati Imchen, Principal of Fazl Ali College, stated that completing fifty years of dedicated service to the noble cause of education is a remarkable achievement, marking not only the passage of time but also the enduring legacy of an institution at the heart of teacher education and educational development in the state.


He added that for five decades, the State College of Teacher Education has stood as a pillar of academic excellence and professional formation, preparing generations of teachers who had shaped the moral and intellectual character of schools and communities.


He highlighted that the institution's role in teacher training, curriculum design, and pedagogical innovation had made an invaluable contribution to the progress of education in Nagaland.


Imchen also congratulated the entire SCTE family for their enduring dedication, sacrifice, and excellence.


Earlier, Secretary of Higher & Technical Education, Sarita Yadav, virtually unveiled the golden jubilee monolith and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Prof. N Venuh released the jubilee souvenir and memento.
