DIMAPUR — With an aim to equip students with practical knowledge about apiculture, the Department of Zoology at St. Xavier College, Senapati, organised a field visit to an apiary at Poudunamei Taphou, Senapati, on Friday.
During the exposure tour, apiarist Abel guided the students and faculty around the farm, which is home to several bee colonies housed in wooden hives, and enlightened them about the social organisation of honeybees, including the roles of the queen, workers, and drones, informed an update from the department.
‘This visit was educational and enriching, providing us with a practical understanding of concepts we had learned in theory,’ read the update.
‘We discovered the economic and ecological significance of apiculture and its potential as a sustainable source of livelihood. The experience at the apiary was memorable and greatly enhanced our knowledge,’ it added.
