Social Work students of St. Xavier College, Senapati, completed a month-long internship across Northeast and Delhi, gaining valuable field experience.

DIMAPUR — With an aim to help students gain practical experience and apply academic knowledge to real-world tasks, the Department of Social Work, St. Xavier College in Senapati, Manipur, organised a month-long internship programme from September 8 to October 8 for students of the 3rd, 5th, and 7th semesters.
The students got internship opportunities at various reputed organisations across the Northeast and Delhi, like Action Aid Association (New Delhi), Peace Channel (Dimapur), Manipur North East Development Association (MANEDA), Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS), Bethany Society (Shillong), Projexel Foundation (Guwahati), ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA) (Dimapur), Mind India (Guwahati), and Snehalaya (Guwahati), informed an update from St. Xavier College.
Expressing their gratitude to the principal, vice principal, and faculty members of the college for providing them the opportunity to have hands-on and field-based learning, the students said that it was a learning experience.

It may be mentioned that internships serve as a vital bridge between theoretical learning and practical field exposure for students, allowing them to engage with diverse communities and understand real-world challenges.
It also helps them develop key social work skills such as community mobilisation, ethical practice, and social advocacy, said the update.
Meanwhile, the 1st-semester students of the college also undertook an orientation visit to Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) and Carmel Jyoti in Imphal on September 9, offering valuable insights into social welfare practices, particularly in areas of community development and child care, it added.
