Dimapur, Sep 19 (EMN): St. Paul Higher Secondary School (SPHSS), Dimapur observed the 2nd Annual Day of LKG and UKG students with their parents on Sep. 16.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, President Lotha Hoho Etsungmomo Kikon, exhorted the parents and said “we have to see twenty years ahead and teach our children of our cultures and traditions, needs to give right direction to the children. We have to give importance to our children; they are few hours in the school, the rest of the time they are with parents. The parents cannot forget their responsibility towards their children. Time has changed now then ten years back. Our society has become so complex we have to see the security of our children”.
Sr. Teresa Kamei in her key note address emphasised the role of parents in lives of their children, importance of child psychology and the ill effects of media.
She said parents are the only people from whom a child can expect unconditional love. Young children grow, learn and develop rapidly when they receive love and affection, attention, encouragement and mental stimulation, as well as nutritious meals and good health care, she added.
Sr. Kamei also said understanding the stages of child development helps parents know what to expect and how to best support the child as she or he grows and develops. A positive parent-child relationship provides the framework and support for a child to develop a healthy respect and regard for self and for others, she added.
“Children have the right to grow up in an environment in which they are enabled to reach their full potential in life. It is the duty of parents, other caregivers and family members, communities, civil society and governments to ensure that these rights are respected, protected and fulfilled,” Sr. Kamei stated.
The programme witnessed number of dances, songs, cultures attires, and fancy dress among others. More than 200 students participated and around 400 parents attended the programme.
SPHSS Principal Sr. Dr. Ranit welcomed the chief guest and gathering while Assistant Prof. Sentinela proposed vote of thanks.
