Jakhama, Nov. 20 (EMN): The students’ community has vital role to play in the transitional phases of society towards a competitive and high-tech globalised community, says N Jacob Yanthan, joint director of Agriculture.
On Wednesday, the official addressed the silver jubilee celebrations of St. Joseph College’s department of English as the event’s special guest. The event was conducted in the Jakhama-based college’s indoor stadium. The theme of the programme was “Reminiscing the past, envisaging better future.”
“It is the demand of the times we live in that we take proactive role and task on a road map. We need humanity but plan with large heartedness,” Yanthan said.
The official maintained that the fast changing trends these days embracing the limitless horizon of high technology into posterty, is leading to the ‘extinction of identity. He urged the students to conscientiously retain the inherent cultural values of hard work, honesty and courage.
Exhorting the students to be hard working, Yanthan said, “Nobody comes into the world fully equipped as a winner. A person who has achieved success in life has learnt to stretch their goals in life.”
The official advised the students to realise their responsibility and to lay a strong foundation of their character and personality, to display intellectual maturity and discretion in any situation.
According to Yanthan, jubilees are a time not only for celebration but also for thanksgiving and retrospection which is also a time of recollection of past events and to conceive and foresee the future.
To mark the event, a souvenir was also released by the special guest.
The vicar general of Kohima Diocese, Rev. Fr. Neisalhou Carulus Kuotsu, spoke blessings for the event. Rev. Fr. Dr. George Kedoulhou Angami, vice-principal, delivered a short speech during the programme.
