St. Joseph’s College Jakhama represented Nagaland at the North-East NSS Festival 2026 in Gangtok where around 300 student volunteers and programme officers from NE attended the event

DIMAPUR — A contingent of 32 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers and two programme officers, Vikato Swu and Tokani L, from St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, represented Nagaland at the North-East NSS Festival 2026.
The five-day festival was held at SC Bhawan in Gangtok, Sikkim, from July 16 to the 20th, according to an update. It was organised by the Sikkim State NSS Cell under the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Around 300 student volunteers and programme officers from across the northeastern states attended the event. The sessions included motivational talks on mindset and self-belief by Sonam; 'My Bharat' and the Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) by the Regional Office, Guwahati; career counselling by Deewaker Basnett, and disaster management awareness by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA).
Technical sessions on DYO My Bharat, biodiversity and waste management by Bhoj Acharya of Sikkim University, and cybercrime by DIG (IPS) Tenzing Loden Lepcha of the Crime Branch, Gangtok, were also held.
Each day began with a Zumba session and concluded with a cultural programme. As part of the cultural exchange competition, the Nagaland contingent performed a folk dance of Meghalaya.
The event also featured a quiz competition and a PowerPoint presentation on the topography, demography, flora, fauna, and cultural heritage of the respective states. Bemolongmang M Chang and Visulu Rume represented Nagaland in the quiz competition and emerged as winners, while Vuruthong represented the state in the PPT presentation and was declared the second runner-up.
