Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN): St. Joseph’s College at Jakhama in Kohima district is now an autonomous educational institution. The college issued a press release to the media on Tuesday informing about its new administrative status.
The college held its “inaugural celebration” as an autonomous college on November 20 in the college’s indoor stadium.
Kuholi Chishi, director of Higher Education, was the “special guest” of the event, the college informed. Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, the bishop of Diocese of Kohima, was the guest of honour, the updates stated. Among others, the members of the college, well-wishers, and village elders attended the event, the college stated.
The college’s principal, Fr. Dr. Sebastian Ousepparampil, gave the welcome address. He called the day a momentous moment for the institution. He remarked that the college’s autonomy ha now opened a gate to future development and challenges.
“He joyously welcomed the gathering in the best fitting manner. Later, he also presented the prospects and arenas of what it means to be autonomous college and the dream to become deemed university in the future,” the updates stated.
Most Rev. James Thoppil also addressed the event. He pointed out that the members of the college can now boast of a promising future.
Kuholi Chishi began her speech by congratulating the college, the updates stated. “Chishi urged the students and the management to continue for excellence. She exhorted the students to believe in their dreams ensuring a safe landing wherever they go. Like any work of art which has beginning, middle and end where there is a climax,” the press release stated.
Chishi was stated to have added that ‘one should not end in the climax due to catastrophic fall but maintain a fine finish to continue doing good.’ She was also awarded a certificate of recognition and appreciation by the college for ‘her contribution to the field of higher education in the state’ and her ‘vital role to the college as the director of the department.’
