DIMAPUR — The Varsity Sports Week 2026 of St. Joseph University (SJU) concluded with a valedictory programme at the university ground in Chümoukedima on March 27.
The three-day sporting event was organised from March 25 on the theme “Ignite the athlete within”, according to an update.
The sports week featured team sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, kho kho, kabaddi, and cricket. It also had special competitions like the fittest Josephite, penalty shootout, obstacle race, tug of war, and talent show.
Track and field events included the 100m, 200m, and 800m races, along with long jump, high jump, shot put, and the rally race. Indoor and strength-based competitions had table tennis, chess, arm wrestling, and the traditional Naga wrestling (Kene).

Further, it also had a crab-walking race, a fill-the-brick challenge, and a bread-eating contest. A major highlight of the sports week was the exhibition football match between the SJUSC and the SJU faculty.
Group 6 (Liverpool), comprising the departments of Physical Education and Sports, Sociology, Social Work, Botany, and Chemistry, emerged as the overall champion of the sports week.
The best discipline trophy was awarded to the Real Madrid team (Department of Political Science). The best player trophy was conferred upon Viketo Zhimo from the Liverpool team.
In individual achievements, Rodrik Sangma from the Real Madrid team secured the title of fittest Josephite, while Nuza Ruho emerged as the winner in the Naga wrestling competition.
