SPUD to celebrate Monyiü festival

Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): Signal Phom Union Dimapur (SPUD) has announced to celebrate Monyiü festival on April 4 at Signal Angami Sector-B (junction). The celebration will be graced by MLA S Pangnyu Phom andG Hukugha Sema, IRS Joint Commissioner, Income Tax, Kolkata, as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. A press release issued by SPUD president NT Thamlong and the general secretary Hamphen Phom said the celebration will be marked with cultural extravaganza and community feast.Monyiü is celebrated to invoke god’s blessing to have bountiful harvest after the sowing is done in the paddy field. It is also an occasion in which sisters and daughters who are married to other community are honoured. It is also believed that the souls of the departed members leave for their permanent abode only after celebration of the Monyiü festival.
