Dimapur, Sep. 14: Students need to study and analyse what they are good at and pursue it. Improving oneself will sustain a person and teach him to be self-reliant. This was the message of a government officer to a group of students during a students’ programme in Dimapur.

The assistant director of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Alongse was the keynote speaker of a talent hunt of the Sangtam Students’ Union on Saturday in the IMC Hall in Dimapur.

Emphasising the importance of ‘self-actualisation,’ the officer urged the students to excel in life. He said improving oneself would sustain a person to be self-reliant. He advised the students not to be deceived, but to analyse the areas one is good at, and pursue it.

“Unless you are happy and have vision, you’ll never have successful life,” Alongse said. He lamented that many people today are becoming self-centred and losing humanity. He asked the students, “How many of you want to love money and how many of wants to make money?”

‘Love humanity and give back to the society and the community will create money itself,’ he said and urged the students to have community-based, humane thinking. He told the students to focus on how to become self-reliant as the government service sector is now ‘saturated.’

The officer also narrated the example of Kerala, how the state has come to have the highest share in the GDP because of their skilled workforce. Alongse urged the students to train to acquire skills for the job market.

The highlight of the second session of the programme was the crowning of Miss Fresher 2019 and Mr Fresher 2019 followed by the talent hunt. After several rounds of assessment, Lirila of Dimapur Government College was crowned Miss Fresher 2019 while Muwase of St. Joseph University was declared Mr Fresher 2019. Alo was adjudged the winner of the talent hunt for his artwork.
