DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 15: The first quarter-final match of the MDFA Trophy 2016 between OCYU and Sports Society Suyim (SSS) witnessed the collision between a vigorous and attacking SSS players and a formidable OCYU defence completed with a seasoned goalkeeper.
The quarter final match of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2016 between OCYU and Sports Society Suyim (SSS) was a crucial match by all means. OCYU was without a loss while SSS with a large support base (as one of the favourites in the tournament) rendered the match one-sided to some extent. Suyim, with their strong midfield and strikers, especially in the person of Osen and Moatemsu – ensured a vicious attack. But, to their credit, the OCYU defence line formidable.The first half of the match remained goalless. The second half witnessed the same pattern of play: SSS on the offensive and OCYU defending. But in the 60th minute, the attacking SSS midfielders found a gap in the four-man strong OCYU defence. A shot was attempted which was deflected by the OCYU goalkeeper, but somehow right into the boots of Ngulie Pochury) who scored the first and the only goal in the 59th minute.
The onslaught by Sports Society Suyim was relentless even after the first goal. The OCYU played defensive till the very last minute of the match. Meanwhile, the match patron for the first quarter was the Superintendent of Excise, Mokokchung Moarenba. Upcoming young singer, Mejena, a thirteen year old schoolgirl, presented a special song at the programme.
