DIMAPUR — The nine-day sports meet of the Sumi Games and Sports Association (SGSA) concluded with Kuhuboto Area Sports Association (KASA) lifting the football trophy after defeating Aqahuto Area Sports Association (AASA) with a 1-0 scoreline in the final match.
The match was played at Shokhuvi village, Chümoukedima, on April 10.
The tournament featured various sports disciplines such as spear kicking, volleyball, and badminton, catering to both men and women, and for the first time, the Sumi Games and Sports Association included futsal in the lineup, with AASA emerging as the champion in the inaugural edition.
In men's volleyball, Akuluto VK Area secured victory over Highway Area in the final match, while Pughoboto Area emerged as the champions against the Highway Area team in the women's volleyball final.
Speaking during the closing ceremony as the guest of honour, KT Sukhalu, Advisor for Food and Civil Supply and Legal Metrology, encouraged the youth to be passionate about whatever they pursue.
He expressed that youths exhibit strong enthusiasm for sports and enjoy participating in almost all kinds of games and activities. However, merely playing occasionally as a hobby won't lead to success in any sports discipline.
According to the advisor, for those aspiring to succeed in sports, consistency, dedication, and treating it as their career are essential.
Meanwhile, the president of the Sumi Games and Sports Association, Akihito Zhimomi, along with the association officials, expressed appreciation to Kitto Zhimomi for sponsoring the trophies in honour of his father and former minister, Ihezhe Zhimomi and his mother, Tojeli Zhimomi.
