Dimapur, April 10 (EMN): Government of India has assured setting up Taekwondo Academy, Sepakthakraw Institute and Aqua Park in Dimapur. This was informed by the Parliamentary Secretary, Khekaho Assumi, who recently took over the charge of Sports and Youth Resource during visit to the ongoing construction of Multi-Disciplinary State Stadium and Swimming Pool in Dimapur behind IMC Hall.
Khekaho informed that Government of India had assured setting up Taekwondo Academy in Dimapur at the cost of Rs 10-15 crores within short period on production of feasible Detail Project Report (DPR). Khekaho also informed that GOI had verbally assured to set up Sepakthakraw Institute in the State amounting Rs 200 crores with state of the art infrastructure as well as Aqua Park with water sports facilities in Dimapur.
Visiting the ongoing construction of swimming pool funded by DONER under NLCPR in Dimapur, Khekaho, who was not impressed with the progress of the work, directed the department and the implementing organisation to sign an undertaking in order to complete the work the earliest.
It was informed that an estimated Rs 2 crore had been sanctioned out of the total Rs 2.49 crores for the project. It was agreed in principal that the department and the implementing organisation -Nagaland Youth Gymnastic Club -will signed an undertaking to complete the project within three month on the condition that the department release the remaining fund.
It may be mentioned here that foundation of the project was inaugurated by former Governor Shyamal Dutta in 2003. The department officials said the timeframe for completion of the swimming pool was on scheduled as per the project report tentatively in the month of May 2017. They were hopeful that the project will be completed within the time frame.
Director of Youth Resources & Sports, Asangla Imti said, “we want the project to be completed in time.” She also informed that many ongoing projects have been stalled due to the change in the funding pattern.
The Swimming Pool is being constructed for the welfare of the youth, students, sports persons and public.
Khekaho, who was scheduled to visit the ongoing construction of Multi Disciplinary Sports Complex, Dimapur, near DC Court junction, however, could not make it as the concerned contractor failed to turn up. Later, he visited the boys’ hostel of State Sport Academy and the Badminton Indoor Stadium at Nagarjan.
