Dimapur, Nov. 19 (EMN): The inaugural ceremony of the annual sports-cum-cultural week (Euphoria 2018) of Don Bosco College, Kohima was held on Nov. 19 at the college premises. Fr. James TP SDB principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School was the special invitee for the programme and Rachutuo Metha, Social & Cultural Secretary DBCKSF chaired the session. This is the first college week to be organised by the Students forum of the college, stated an update received here on Mon. Nov. 19.
The special invitee gave away the Blue ribbon awards to students who excelled in academic and co-curricular activities. The special invitee in his speech appreciated the students’ forum for giving a big hand in organising the event. He further challenged them to go beyond the barriers of one’s culture and to promote human culture.
The event consisted of hoisting of college flag, oath taking, and cultural competitions. Traditional stilt bamboo race, fire making competition and grease poll competitions were conducted to enable the skills of the students. The event, held at the football ground of DBCK, had two selected representative from four participating teams. The competitors were made to ascent a 15-feet-tall bamboo pole greased with pork grease in 30 minutes. They were given the discretion to spray sand for creating roughness thereby making it easier to climb the poles.
Kelhoukhielie of BA 6th Semester emerged as the winner in grease poll competition while KeduongulieMetha of BA 4th Semester emerged as the winner in traditional fire making competition. Nganyan of BA 4th Semester emerged as winner in traditional stilt bamboo race.
