Dimapur, Dec. 7 (EMN): Akho from Phek district emerged as the winner of Naga king chilli eating competition held at Naga heritage village, Kisama on Friday.
According to a DIPR report, the Naga King chilli eating competition is organised as an annual event of the Hornbill festival. “It is considered as one of the most spectacular events witnessed by hundreds of spectators every year. This competition is being organised every year coinciding with the Hornbill festival in order to promote the famous Naga King Chilli to the outside world.
“The event was managed by XL Nagaland which was sponsored by Horticulture department and supported by Oking Hospital and Research Centre, Kohima. Akho, the winner of the competition could finish five hot Naga king chillies and emerged as the winner in the local category,” it reported.
Seintong from Peren district bagged the 2nd position whereas the 3rd position was bagged by Aku Khamo from Kohima district. Seiminlal from Peren district and Keneiselhou Viyie from Kohima district bagged the 4th and 5th position respectively.
“Interestingly, Tapan from Guwahati finished six hot Naga King chillies and emerged as the undisputed winner in the tourist category. He is also the overall winner of the 19th Hornbill Naga King chilli eating competition.
“Altogether eight participants in the local category and four participants including one lady in the tourist category took part in the competition. Secretary, Tourism, T Mhabemo Yanthan gave away the prizes to the winners of the competition,” the report read.
