Diphu, Feb. 11 (EMN): At least four elephants were killed and two others injured after a train hit a herd trying to cross railway tracks at Guhagoan bordering West Karbi Anglong and Hojai district, near Hawaipur railway station.
The herd was hit by the Silchar-bound Kanchenjunga Express on late Sat. night. Locals have claimed that the accident spot was an identified elephant corridor. They alleged that they tried to signal the pilot to slow down due to the movement of elephants.
Local authorities from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang rushed to the spot on Sun. the government assured all possible measures to prevent such ‘tragic accidents’.
Many trains got delayed on Sun. due to the accident on the tracks.
