Dear Naga People,
On this solemn and significant occasion of the 71st Anniversary of Naga Republic Day, I offer my praise and gratitude to God Almighty. On 22nd March 1956, the Naga people declared a constitutional government as a sovereign nation. Since that historic day, we have continued to commemorate this occasion with reverence.
This political and legal institution, established by the will of the Naga people, stands as a testament to the sovereign rights of all Nagas across our ancestral homeland. It reflects our collective aspiration for self-determination and nationhood.
On this day, we also remember with deep respect and gratitude our pioneers, leaders, and martyrs who laid the foundation of our government and made immense sacrifices in defence of our sovereign rights. I humbly pray to God Almighty as we honour their legacy and offer our homage.
It is also important to recall that in 1955, the Free Naga Eastern people resisted external forces, marking the beginning of a prolonged struggle. Since then, together with our people, we have continued to stand firm in our commitment to the sovereign rights and freedom of the Naga nation. At the same time, I express deep concern over the safety and well-being of our young people who travel to Indian cities, where instances of discrimination, mistreatment, and violence have prevailed. I urge our youth to exercise caution and prioritise their safety. For purposes of work and education, young people may also consider exploring opportunities in neighbouring Asian countries such as China, Myanmar, and Thailand, as well as other friendly nations, while making informed and careful decisions.
The Naga people must stand united in purpose and spirit to achieve our collective aspirations. Unity among all sections of our society remains essential as we move forward in pursuit of our political goals.
We affirm our distinct identity, history, and heritage as a people. The Nagas, as part of the broader Mongoloid ethnic group, possess unique cultural and historical roots that set us apart from India. At the same time, our Christian faith remains central to our lives and identity. Our belief in God and in Jesus Christ as our Saviour is deeply rooted and continues to guide our values, actions, and way of life. This faith strengthens our unity, resilience, and commitment to truth and justice.
The Naga National Council acknowledges and appreciates the dedicated efforts of our student bodies, civil society organisations, churches, and intellectuals. Your continued commitment to the welfare, rights, and future of our people is commendable. We stand in solidarity with your efforts and pray for your strength and perseverance.
In view of the evolving global and regional situation, it is more important than ever for the Naga people to remain united, vigilant, and steadfast. Let us stand firm in our convictions and work together for a peaceful and secure future for our people and our homeland.
May God Almighty bless, protect, and guide the Naga people.
Kuknalim
