Speech of General (Retd) Thepuneyi Rhakho
At the very outset I give all Glory to God who has blessed us with our Naga Nation of which we are the sole custodian. It is a privilege and honour to address you on this historic occasion of the 69th Republic day of our Nation.
- Beloved country men and women,
-
- At the very outset I give all Glory to God who has blessed
us with our Naga Nation of which we are the sole custodian. It is a privilege
and honour to address you on this historic occasion of the 69th Republic day of
our Nation. With utmost reverence, I pay my tribute to our pioneers for laying
a solid political foundation for which we are able to stand today with dignity
and pride. The Nation pays tribute to all Naga Martyrs and families for their
sweats, tears, blood and selfless sacrifices. I beseech the same spirit of
nationalism resonate in each and every one of us with greater meaning than
ever. Today, we are reminded of the first session of the Tatar Hoho held on the
22nd March 1956 at Parashan, Rengma Region, wherein Khanak Ngü khüm (Federal
Government of Nagaland) was established.
- Since the inception of our Republic 69th years ago, we have
traversed through myriad challenges and triumphs, emerging stronger and more
resilient each time.
- Now, who will deny the submission of the Memorandum to the
Simon Commission in 1929; who will refute the NNC declaration of the 14th
August 1947 as Independence Day. Who can deny the authenticity of the Naga
Plebiscite of May 16th 1951. All these historical events and political
milestone have entered into the annals of Naga history which no one can
dispute.
- Therefore, the Federal Government is committed to upholding
these historical and political principles employing as the guiding light
steering towards our goals.
- As we celebrate the spirit of our Republic, we must also
reflect on the responsibilities that accompany our freedom. It is incumbent
upon each one of us to uphold the principles of our constitution, to safeguard
the sovereignty of Naga Nation.
- On this momentous occasion, I pledge this before Almighty
God and our Nation that the NNC/FGN will stand steadfast on the Plebiscite of
16th May 1951 and will never settle for anything short of Sovereignty.
- So, let us renew our pledge to uphold the ideals of our
Republic and work tirelessly towards realising the aspirations of our people.
Together, let us march forward with determination and purpose, guided by the
principles of Non-violence, justice and equality.
- God Bless Nagaland
- HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY
