Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): World Forestry Day cum prepared speech competition on the theme “Our environment, our responsibility,” was organized by Earth Friendly Generation (EFG), NGO, for the students of Don Bosco School Chiephobozou Town, Kohima on March 21, at EFG Conference Hall.
Speaking as a chief guest, assistant professor Vizomenuo Merlyn, HoD of Tenyiedie, Science College, Jotsoma, highlighted the history on how the World Forestry Day came into being. She said across the world, every year on March 21, people actively participate to promote in preserving flora and fauna. She also mentioned how the government initiated ways to protect the forest using action word “if you cut one tree, you should plant ten trees”.
She challenged the participants not only to speak out the theme, but to put it into practice and encouraged the students to take major part in protecting and preserve our environment as human being depend sole in forest for food, shelter, clean air and water etc. Judges for the competition were Medochütuo Kiewhou, general secretary of Nagaland Law Student’s Federation and Vizosü Kikhi from North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) MSW College, Dimapur.
Arkaprobha Biswas of class 10, Kezhalhoubei of class 10 and Zapusienuo Üsou of class 10 were adjudged in first, second and third position respectively. All the winners were awarded with cash prize and certificates by the chief guest. Certificates were also given to all the participants.
Earlier, invocation was pronounced by Vilathie Sylvester, Catechist of St. Dominic Savio Church, Chiephobozou, while Medoneisa Marcus, chairman of EFG exhorted the gathering and vote of thanks was proposed by Keduolhoukho Chadi, Director of EFG.
