Dimapur, Dec. 14 (EMN): The ongoing crisis in Assam set off by mass protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) had left scores of people from Nagaland stranded at Guwahati. To facilitate their extraction, a special train carrying those passengers left Guwahati at 2.30 pm for Dimapur on Saturday, according to Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo.
He told Eastern Mirror that the special train for the passengers is part of the BG Express rack. No ticket fees were charged from the passengers, he said.
Tetseo also informed that the Kamrup Express has been stranded in Dimapur since December 11. “Dimapur station has around 1200-1300 passengers stranded,” he said adding that even in Lumding, there were a few stranded passengers.
Nagaland police, IRB and railway forces have been deployed to ensure safety of all passengers during this time. Tetseo informed that Nagaland police personnel have also been placed at Guwahati train station. Apart from the special train, Nagaland Express is also running.
A reliable source informed that most train stations between Guwahati and Dimapur refuse to flag off the trains due to the sensitivity of the situation. Only after “higher authorities” from the central government were apprised of the matter, the special train was arranged, the source informed.
