Nagaland initiates Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across multiple districts with October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date.
DIMAPUR — The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland and district election officers across multiple districts have initiated preparations and announced the schedules for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the state, with October 1 as the qualifying date.
According to a DIPR report, CEO Bhagyashree Banayat held a coordination meeting with representatives of political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, and Naga People's Front, in Kohima on Thursday.
During the meeting, she highlighted the importance of appointing booth-level agents and requested the parties to complete these appointments to ensure the successful conduct of the revision process. Various aspects of the revision, including training, printing of enumeration forms, and the overall process, were explained.
Further, notifications were issued by the respective district administrations, announcing the schedule and activities for the SIR in Nagaland.
The preparatory stage, including training, stakeholder meetings, setting up of help desks, and the printing and issuing of enumeration forms to booth-level officers, will take place from August 5 to the 14th.
This will be followed by house-to-house visits by booth-level officers from August 16 to September 14 to distribute and collect filled enumeration forms in duplicate.
The rationalisation of polling stations is scheduled to be completed by September 14, ensuring no polling station exceeds 1,200 electors without prior approval.
The draft electoral roll will be published on September 20, consisting of the names of electors who submitted filled forms or were verified online. The period for filing claims and objections is scheduled from September 20 to October 20 in Kiphire, while the period in Tuensang is scheduled from September 10 to October 20 and in Phek from September 29 to October 20.
The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will take place from September 20 to November 18, during which electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers will scrutinise eligibility and conduct enquiries where necessary. The final electoral roll will be published on November 22.
Tuensang: Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Election Officer (DEO) of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, directed that electoral registration officers of each assembly constituency must ensure no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included.
She noted that electors who fail to submit forms within the specific time can file Form 6 during the claims and objections period. For assistance, a district helpdesk toll-free number, 18003453748, has been set up.
Kiphire: In Kiphire, the district administration has appealed to all political parties to appoint booth-level agents for each polling station to ensure transparency and effective participation.
Phek: DC and DEO Phek Rhosietho Nguori issued a public notice highlighting the collaborative nature of the exercise and requested all stakeholders, including electors and political parties, to extend full cooperation.
Longleng: DC and DEO Longleng held a meeting with political parties at the DPDB Hall on Thursday. The assistant election officer of Longleng appealed to political party leaders to extend full cooperation to booth-level officers to ensure an error-free electoral roll.
