Dimapur, Aug. 1 (EMN): A two-day special camp for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) was organised by Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Office Wokha in collaboration with Deputy Commissioner Office, Wokha and 28 Assam Rifle, Wokha at Town Hall Wokha on July 31 and August 1 2018.
The special camp was conducted in line with NALSA (Legal Services to the mentally ill and mentally disabled persons) Scheme, 2015. About 1000 beneficiaries availed free medical treatment with free medicines and legal counselling during the two-day special camp, while about 200 PwDs were identified for issuing of disability certificate and for follow up actions with crutches, hearing aid and wheel chairs.
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha stated that the special camp for Persons with Disabilities is first of a kind in Wokha.
He therefore underscored the need for Persons with Disabilities to take the opportunity to avail the benefits during such camp.
The DC lauded the WDLSA and CMO for collaborating with District Administration and 28 Assam Rifles for the services rendered to the marginalised section of the society. He further encouraged the WDLSA to continue giving their services for the upliftment and welfare of the society.
Delivering a short speech, Dr. Phyobemo Ngullie, Psychologist encouraged the beneficiaries to come forward and avail the benefits given through the medical camp.
He advised the PwDs to come out of social stigma as disability can be cured with proper treatment and counselling.
Summing up the two-day camp, Nino Iralu, District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson, WDLSA said that the Right to Treatment and to get proper health care is guaranteed under Article 21 of the constitution of India which is applicable to all, especially to the PwDs. She further acknowledged the help rendered by Social
Welfare Department, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Wokha District Pharmacy Association, Wokha District Chamber of Commerce, Wokha District Entrepreneurs Association, Team Metamorphosis, Lotha Baptist Ekhumkho Sanrhutsu, DPRO and Legal Literacy Club Members Wokha.
