Sovima village to strictly implement Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003
The Sovima Village Council (SVC) has resolved to strictly implement the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003
- DIMAPUR — The
Sovima Village Council (SVC) has resolved to strictly implement the provisions
of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and warned that
shops found violating those provisions would be penalised with cancellation of
their trade licenses.
- It mentioned that COTPA 2003 prohibits sale of cigarettes
and other tobacco products to persons under 18 years of age and also in an area
within a radius of one hundred yards of any educational institution.
- The notification was issued following receipt of reports
that some shops are selling cigarettes and other tobacco products such as
gutka, talab, shikar, rajnigandha etc in close proximity of educational
institutions in the village.
- The council also reiterated to strictly implement its
earlier resolution to expel from the village any person found selling
intoxicants/ psychotropic substances within the jurisdiction of the village. It
added that the council would seize property from where the sale of those banned
substances is found.
- It further informed that youth volunteers accompanied by
GBs/ VCMs would conduct regular checking to implement those resolutions adding
necessary actions would be taken on the spot against the defaulters.
