KOHIMA — The wildfire in southern Dzükou entered its eighth day on Monday, with surveillance teams and Indian Air Force (IAF) Bambi bucket operations continuing efforts to contain the blaze that broke out on January 26.
While the fire in most areas has subsided, smoke remains visible on the southern side of Dzükou near Mt. Merata and is spreading towards Terhotsekhwe, located over a two-hour walk from the main valley. However, sources said it is unlikely that the fire will reach the main Dzükou Valley at present.

Surveillance teams are monitoring the situation and assisting ground operations on a daily basis.
IAF Bambi bucket operations were carried out three times on Monday, sources said. An extension for the use of IAF helicopter services has also been requested.
