- DIMAPUR — The
Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO), in collaboration with Southern
Angami Students’ Union (SASU) and NSS volunteers of St. Joseph’s College
(Autonomous), Jakhama, carried out sanitation drive at Dzükou Valley from March
14 to the 16th.
- The drive was specifically conducted in and around the
valley with 34 volunteers, where compost pits were dug to manage collected
trashes.
- An update from SAYO informed that it would soon conduct mass
sanitation drive along the Viswema route, Jakhama route and the Base camp on
April 22, coinciding with “Earth Day.”
- The organisation further notified visitors to Dzükou Valley,
both foreign and local, to kindly adhere to managing own wastes and move away
from any acts that compromises environment sustainability.
- Meanwhile, SAYO has expressed concern over numerous cases of
forest fires that have been occurring within its jurisdiction, inflicting
widespread environmental damage.
- SAYO has emphasised its commitment on the organisation’s
“bye-laws 2021,” which extends to the whole of Southern Angami areas/ villages,
binding individual/ groups causing forest fire whether intentional or through
negligence with penalties and judicial processes depending on the collateral
damage caused.
- SAYO also urged the public within its jurisdiction to avoid
causing forest fires and use precautions when working in their fields and
surrounding areas.
